Overview: As you might expect, this is a book about Podcasting. It goes into detail on what it is, what you need to do to get started with it, how to market it using different methods of promotion and how to realize a return on investment for your efforts. Like many of the other "Dummies" series books, it is the basics on how to do Podcasting.
Review: It was a good thing that this book started with the basics as I did not even know what a Podcast was. They have been in the news and on different websites for some time now, so I thought it was about time that I learned something about them and whether or not I could apply it to my business. I had had a good experience with other books from the Dummies series in the past so I figured this one would be the perfect start to my understanding of Podcasting. I was not disappointed with this one either. Once I had finished the book I was eager to start my very own Podcast. I not only knew what one was, but I had learned the steps required to start my own.
The book covered what kinds of information could be included in a Podcast - basically anything! The explanations in the books was straightforward and easily understood. For someone like myself it covered the simple parts but it also went into more depth on the complicated matters to that when finished I felt that I had a good understanding of all the different features and functions of Podcasting.
The checklist including individual steps to getting started was a huge help for me. These steps gave instructions on getting set up, getting published, getting interviews, getting marketing plans established, getting promotion and getting advertising for my new Podcast. It was loaded with different suggestions I could make use of. The organization of the book was also an added feature including a reference guide and review articles. These features helped to make it a great reference guide later after I finished reading it.
If you're not a technical type of person, you'll also find help with computer and Podcast terminology. I'm not technically inclined so I found this to be a great value. Terminology such as software and hardware were terms I needed help with, along with the knowledge of what I would need to create my first Podcast and where I could find this.
In summary, you really can not go wrong in purchasing this book. There are many helpful ideas and great information pleasingly presented in this book. It offers what you need to simply gain an overview kind of understanding of Podcasting or the details needed to actually create your very own. This was a great help for me.
